2014 English & Study Skills Program Begins
On 23 June, the English & Study Skills Program (ESSP) began with a total of 42 students enrolled. The 12-week program is designed to upgrade the English language competences of the participants so they are comfortable and confident with maritime English. The first day for the students included an orientation program and a bus tour of Malmö. ESSP classes commenced the following day.
ESSP may be taken as a pre-cursor to WMU M.Sc. programs, or as a stand-alone course. The core skills areas include speaking and presentations, listening and reading comprehension, and writing. These skills are complemented with computer, library, and research workshops.
The 42 students enrolled in ESSP represent 16 countries including Argentina, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, The Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, The Republic of Korea, Mexico, Oman, Panama, Thailand, Tunisia, and Viet Nam. Ten of the students are enrolled in ESSP only and will return home when the program concludes on 12 September. The remaining students will join the Class of 2015 M.Sc. program in Malmö.
