Executive Development Course Delivered in Bangladesh

From 28 February-3 March WMU delivered an Executive Professional Development Course (EPDC) on the topic of Executive Development in the Maritime Sector in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The course was made possible through collaboration with the Bangladesh Marine Academy (BMA) and was led by Professor Neil Bellefontaine, WMU Vice President Academic. 

The five-day course provided an update on executive management development as it relates to the current challenges regarding safety, security and environmental management in the maritime sector. In addition, the course interactively examined corporate challenges of the participants’ respective organizations evaluating how they are being influenced by global change. Representatives from BMA, Bangladesh Government, Industry and Academia were among the 25 participants. While in Chittagong, Professor Bellefontaine also had the opportunity to meet with the Friends of WMU Bangladesh which included 13 WMU alumni.

WMU leads EPDCs around the world providing an opportunity for mid-career updating and knowledge sharing for maritime professionals. Topics addressed meet current and future needs of the maritime market, particularly in IMO-mandated areas. EPDCs support the capacity-building mission of the University as well as WMU’s commitment to the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, and Goal 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
