Mr. Benjamin Zhu joined the WMU as Procurement and Contracts Officer overseeing all procurement and contracts related matters. He manages the procurement and contracts portfolio including the procurement strategy, procurement planning, process management, compliance, monitoring and evaluation, analysis, and reporting. He acts as the focal point for commercial contracts and supports the management in contractual legal matters. He also provides professional support to the Head of Finance and Administrative Services in a wide range of operational tasks including the expense management, special project budgeting and expense reporting, management of the Supply Chain Management module of the ERP system, asset management, as well as other administrative services areas.
Prior to joining the WMU, Mr. Zhu served more than 8 years at the United Nations University (UNU) where he worked as the Manager, Procurement and Operations in Bonn, Germany managing shared procurement and operations services to 7 UNU institutes and programmes in Europe and subsequently as the Associate Executive Officer and Manager, Office of the Director providing strategic and operations management support to the Director in the establishment of the UNU institute in Dresden, Germany and overseeing its operations management in the realm of administration (Finance, Procurement and Human Resources), public relations, legal and programme support. Prior to his career at the UN, Mr. Zhu worked at a number of media institutions in both Europe and China. Mr. Zhu holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of London, UK and a Bachelor’s Degree in German Studies from the Communication University of China. He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Public International Law from the University College London and a Diploma in Public Procurement awarded by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) from the UK. Mr. Zhu is also trained by the United Nations Procurement Division and the UNDP.
