Khanssa Lagdami

Dr. Khanssa LAGDAMI holds a doctorate in the law of the sea from the University of Nantes in France. Her doctoral work was focused on maritime safety and security in the Mediterranean Sea.

Dr. Lagdami’s multidisciplinary profile has seen her participate in the Professional Euro-Mediterranean Studies organised by the Euro-Mediterranean University in Portoroz, Slovenia. She has also attended the prestigious Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations, at The Hague Academy of International Law. The topic of her research was universal jurisdiction in maritime piracy.

She has been invited to a number of think tanks concerned with democracy and human rights in southern Mediterranean countries.

In addition to preparing for the professional bar certification in France, Dr. Lagdami is currently involved with La Cimade, a global non-profit organisation which provides legal counselling to migrants and asylum seekers. She is also a member of the Observatoire des audiences des Juges des Libertés et de la détention in Marseille.

Dr. Lagdami has worked as a legal consultant for maritime companies, and as a maritime law researcher and instructor in both France and Morocco.

Dr. Lagdami joined WMU in June 2015 as an expert to work on the PROMERC project. She is currently working on the SAFEPEC project.
